A very chocolatey smoothie

This is a great one for those of us with a sweet tooth, and is especially useful for those moments when you’re craving chocolate. Cacao is high in polyphenols, especially flavonols, which have many health benefits, including potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Opt for raw, unprocessed cacao powder if you can as this will be highest in these protective plant compounds. 

A very chocolatey smoothie

Serves 1

  • 250ml milk (I like almond milk) 
  • 1/2 frozen banana or 1 banana
  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries 
  • 1 tablespoon almond butter 
  • 1 tablespoon cacao powder (I use Supernova’s cacao protein powder for extra protein)
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon cacao nibs

Combine all the ingredients in a blender and whizz until smooth. Enjoy!

Use this as a starting point. Prefer peanut butter to almond butter?
