This is a great one for those of us with a sweet tooth, and is especially useful for those moments when you’re craving chocolate. Cacao is high in polyphenols, especially flavonols, which have many health benefits, including potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Opt for raw, unprocessed cacao powder if you can as this will be highest in these protective plant compounds.
A very chocolatey smoothie
Serves 1
- 250ml milk (I like almond milk)
- 1/2 frozen banana or 1 banana
- 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 tablespoon almond butter
- 1 tablespoon cacao powder (I use Supernova’s cacao protein powder for extra protein)
- Optional: 1 tablespoon cacao nibs
Combine all the ingredients in a blender and whizz until smooth. Enjoy!
